Jun Nakabayashi

Jun has been active in the San Francisco Bay Area since his return from Italy in 1989. A frequent guest conductor for San Jose State University and associate conductor for Opera San Jose, he has appeared with both symphonic and theatrical groups. He was Music Director for the highly praised new production of Lucia di Lammermoor at West Bay Opera in February 1995, and is scheduled to return to open the 1996 season with the company.

For Opera San Jose where he has been on the music staff since 1990, he prepared the chorus for the production of
Vanessa, and conducted
Die Zauberflote, The Merry Widow, La Boheme,Il Barbiere di Seviglia , Tartuffe, Rigoletto, La Traviata, and
Die Fledermaus. Prior to his return to California, Mr. Nakabayashi served as Music Director of the Stony Brook University Orchestra (Long Island, New York), as well as Assistant Conductor of the Stony Brook Symphony and the Stony Brook Contemporary Music Ensemble, from 1985 to 1987. In 1988 he became an assistant to Gabriele Bellini, former associate of La Scala and Chef Dirigent of Nationale Reisopera and Orchestra of Eastern Netherlands in the Netherlands. He traveled with Mr. Bellini for various concerts and opera productions in Europe and the United States. In June '91 and '92, he prepared the singers and the orchestra for the CD recordings of
La Sonnambula and
Linda di Chamounix (Arts Music label) conducted by Gabriele Bellini at Nationale Reisopera.
