Katya Roemer

Soprano

KATYA ROEMER, soprano, has performed extensively as a soloist in opera, concert and musical theater in the Bay Area and New York as well as Italy and Spain. Ms. Roemer has appeared at Tatiana in Eugene Onegin with the Gran Theatre del Liceu in Barcelona and has sung in concert at the opera houses in Spoleto and Trevi, Italy.

Other credits include solo and leading roles with Sacramento, Eugene, West Bay, Stockton, Berkeley and Oakland Opera companies, the Oakland-East Bay, Sacramento and Bakersfield symphonies and the William Hall and Cantare Chorales. Ms. Roemer’s wide ranging repertoire includes the soprano role in George Coate’s Performance Works Rare Area, the roles of The Countess in The Marriage of Figaro, Tosca, Madame Butterfly and Vanessa, the Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier, Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus, Leonora in Il Trovatore and the Foreign Princess in Rusalka. Concert works include soprano soloist in Elijah, the Messiah and the requiems of Verdi, Dvorak and Brahms. Among her favorite musical theater credits are Lilli Vanessi in Cole Porter’s Kiss Me Kate and soprano lead in Side by Side by Sondheim and Berlin to Broadway.

In August of 2004, Ms. Roemer received critical acclaim for her portrayal of Geraldine in Samuel Barber’s A Hand of Bridge with Solo Opera at the Dean Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek. “Katya Roemer was a standout as Geraldine whose placid, exterior masks nothing less than a profound inner monologue on life, love and mortality.”–Georgia Rowe, Contra Costa Times. She appears in concert throughout the year for various organizations and clubs where she presents a wide variety of programming from opera, operetta and musical theater to contemporary and classical art song. In addition to her performing schedule, Katya maintains voice studios in the East Bay and San Jose. A winner of many awards and prizes, Ms. Roemer took first place in the National Opera Association’s vocal competition and was first runner-up in the Metropolitan Opera Pacific Region auditions.
