Monroe Kanouse

Monroe Kanouse is a well-known opera conductor, vocal coach and concert accompanist, has conducted many opera companies throughout the United States. He is on the faculty of San Francisco Conservatory of Music and conducts the annual opera production. He was instrumental in forming the Sacramento Opera Association company in 1981 and is currently principal conductor with the company.

He teaches the opera class at Holy Names College in Oakland where he has produced four annual Opera Scenes Workshops. In 1996, he conducted the Lamplighters of San Francisco on their tour of England, participating in the International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival competition, leading them to their First Prize Award for Best Performing Foreign Group, and the Grand Prize award for Best Overall Performance at Buxton. He is an artistic consultant to Oakland Lyric Opera.
